What is the function of the following:
Pinna – the flap of cartilage which has the sole purpose of directing sound waves
tympanic membrane – the ear drum that starts the vibrating
ossicles – they vibrate to cause movement within the fluid of the cochlea
cochlea – to stimulate nerve impulses to be sent to the brain by the auditory nerve.
semicircular canals- deals with balance, the equilibrium of the body
What three bones make up the ossicles? Malleus, incus, stapes.

what is CNS and PNS
What does CNS and PNS stand for? CNS stands for the Central Nervous System, and PNS stands for Peripheral Nervous System.
What are the parts of the CNS? It consists of the spinal cord, and the brain. It controls the thinking the memory and the behavior.
Describe something that you do on a regular basis that your PNS controls. It sends messages and nerve sensory to the rest of my body.
What are the two divisions of the autonomic nervous system and what does each control? It is divided into the Sympathetic and the Parasympathetic Nervous system. The sympathetic branch controls the body in time of stress and worry, fear, and emergency. The parasympathetic branch brings the body back to a normal state and allows the rest and relaxation to occur.
What are the three main types of neurons? What is the function of each? Sensory Neuron, Motor Neuron, Interneuron. Sensory neurons help to sent the message to the motor neuron and the motor neuron helps to send the sense to the interneuron and that’s where it is then sent to the brain.
What is the function of the axon of a nerve cell? The dendrite? The axon is the sending end of the neuron, and the dendrite is the receiving end of the neuron.
What is a synapse? It is the sparking or jumping of neural impulses from one neuron to another
Sketch a neuron and label the axon and the dendrite.

week9 task 2
. Take a few minutes to reflect and examine your attitude. Write a paragraph giving an accurate assessment of your attitude. Do you normally react positively or negatively to the situations in your life? Give specific examples.2. Write a paragraph about the attitude you regular display at your service learning placement or on a job that you currently have. Is that an area you could show some improvement in over the next weeks? Give specific examples.3. Write a paragraph expressing how the attitudes of others in your life have influenced you.
With my attitude I normally react negatively to things because I am always expecting the worst. It seems as if when I was younger that every time I got my hopes up about something either something would go wrong or it just wouldn’t happen. So since then I just haven’t been able to think that whatever happened would have a positive outcome. I guess that is why I think the way that I do.
I currently have a job and I have a service learning and I have to display customer service and a positive attitude at both of them whether I am having a good day or not. Even if I don’t want to smile I have to because that’s my job and I am here to do it and I have to deal with people. If they have nasty or snobby attitudes I still have to smile and tell them have a great day.
The attitudes of others affect me sometimes. When I might be feeling down and out and I see someone that may just be happy to see me, then that picks me up a little bit. On the other hand if I am having a good day and someone comes at me with an attitude then that’s not going to do anything but make me mad and then I am going to stat having a bad day just because they brought that negative energy around me. Other than that I try to enjoy life and stay happy.

Week 6 task 2
One way that I can save time in the mornings is to get up earlier than I normally do and not hit the snooze button on my alarm clock. I have to understand that I don’t need to be late for school and I need to get up earlier. Not only do I have to get my self ready in the morning and then I have to make up my bed and clean my room, and just tidy up my bathroom and things of that nature.
If I became overwhelmed with obligations then I would just have to sit down and analysis what needs to be done first and how much time do I have to do it. This is another time where time management plays a factor in it, because if its something major then it needs to get done first, and the smaller things can get done last.

week 10 task 2
Yes I think that I have great communication skills because I am a people person and I love people. I communicate with people at church differently than i would with people at school because its a totally different environment where things are more religious than the public school. I mean i dont think that i need to improve my communication skills but if i could i would learn how to relate to everybody. If you know how to communicate well, then that’s really the key to life. If you don’t know how to communicate then you don’t really need to be out in the real world. In order to get along with people you have to know how to talk to people and get along with people. I learned a lot about my profession. I learned how to make coffee and different types of iced drinks, and how everybody is different in what they like. Some people like more chocolate in their drinks, some like espresso. Some people like caramel and some like strong strong coffee. Some people like burnt bagels and some like them with butter. But you never know because everybody is different. The people that i work with in my profession i really didnt have to get to know them because i work with them on a daily bases and i see them at school, so i didnt have to meet anybody new. The positive experiences that i have is learning how to deal with different types of people and the different likes and dislikes. Some negitive experiences that i have had was with the stealing and me not knowing until later. Alot of people will ask you for free stuff and its hard to say no. Some positive things that i look forward to is the summer and getting out of here.
week 10 task 1
1) Three types of written communication are letters, another is Google chat, and another one would myspace.
2) Three types of verbal communication are tapes, speeches and telephones.
3) Three types of non-verbal communication are eye contact, gestures, and facial gestures.
Some barriers that could happen with these types of comunication is that things could be misinterpreted and people could get the meaning of the wrong thing and it could escalade into a whole other problem. Then you have a whole situation on your hands.
Some ways that it could help i mean maybe you could be like me, and express yourself better through words and not face-to-face. And that would help you.

week 4 task 5
Some of the things that I have learned in my profession is how to make coffee and everyone has different types that they like. Everyone is different and they like different things and different amounts of different things. To keep them pleased you have to you have to fix there orders according to them and them and what they like. Working with the different people in my placement is really not anything new because I work with the people from my school and I see them on a daily bases so I didn’t have to get to know anybody new. The people I work with are really nice and they aren’t rude or disrespectful.
Yes I have had a lot of positive experiences and so forth; I have never had a negative one while working at jittery joes. I am just looking forward to finishing this class and being done for the summer, but don’t get me wrong it’s a great experience but I am just ready for the summer.

How Do You Learn? Profile Description
The Visual Learner
Visual learners draw mental pictures when trying to remember things. They learn best by looking at pictures, graphs, charts, and designs. Visual learners usually absorb information best from books and class notes and by translating ideas into visual formats. Color-coding works well for visual learners. So does writing information on flashcards and highlighting key concepts.
The Auditory Learner
Auditory learners learn best when they hear spoken words. They focus best by listening and by verbalizing concepts out loud. Auditory learners probably learn a lot from lectures and class discussions. Taping lectures and discussions works well. So does reading study notes out loud and stating math problem and concepts verbally.
The Tactile/Kinesthetic Learner
Tactile and kinesthetic learners benefit most from “hands-on” activities. They usually clarify ideas by writing them down and understand formulas by manipulating them. Tactile/ kinesthetic learners learn best in laboratory settings and by doing fieldwork and class demonstrations. Making models to illustrate concepts works well. So does typing information on the computer, reorganizing material in different ways, and taping class lectures and listening to them during exercise.

Making Your Learning Style Work for You
Once you have figured out the way you learn, you will need to use specific strategies to help you with your way of learning. For example, if you are a visual learner, you could visual materials such as pictures or charts to help you learn and retain information.
Below are some practical suggestions for the various types of learners:
Visual Learners:
· Use visual materials such as pictures, charts, maps, graphs, etc.
· Have a clear view of your teachers when you are speaking so you can see their body language and facial expression.
· Use color to highlight important points in text.
· Take notes or ask your teacher to provide handouts.
· Illustrate your ideas as a picture or brainstorming bubbles before writing them down.
· Write a story and illustrate it.
· Use multi-media (e.g.. computers, videos, etc.).
· Study in a quiet place away from auditory disturbances.
· Read illustrated books.
· Visualize information as a picture to aid memorization.
Auditory Learners:
· Participate in class discussions/debates.
· Make speeches and presentations.
· Use a tape recorder during lectures instead of taking notes.
· Read text out aloud.
· Create musical jingles or raps to aid memorization.
· Create mnemonics to aid memorization.
· Discuss your ideas verbally.
· Dictate to someone while they write down your thoughts.
· Use verbal analogies and storytelling to demonstrate your point.
Tactile/Kinesthetic Learners:
· Take frequent study breaks.
· Move around to learn new things (e.g., read while on an exercise bike, mold a piece of clay to learn a new concept).
· Work at a standing position.
· Chew while studying.
· Use bright colors to highlight reading material.
· Dress up your work space with posters.
· If you wish, listen to music while you study.
· Skim though reading material to get a rough idea of what it’s about before settling down to read it in detail.

Task 2 Week 1
Some habits that i think that positive students may have is answering all the questions all the time and not giving other students the chance to ask thme. Its not that they are trying to do it, its just that when you get so excited that you just have a habit of answering them. I often do that without thinking and its not like i mean to do it, but i do. I dont mean any harm and i hope that no one thinks that i just want to answer all the questions but its just a mistake.
Week 1 task 1
To become a succesful student i have to quit getting so distracted easily and pay attention more. I dont have a problem with being on time so thats not an issue. Sometimes i need to listen more than i talk but other than that i think that i am a fairly good student. The teachers dont have any problems out of me and i dont cause any so other than what i named thats all i think that i need to work on.
